Well here we go, Charter is probably going to be instituting bandwidth caps in the near future. If you have a service plan that is under 15 mbs you have a cap of 100 gigs a month. 

I consider myself a heavy internet user (I'll be honest, I'm on the computer ALL the time) and this news is frightening, enraging, and disappointing. It's not hard to see why Charter is instituting a hard cap, video streaming services like Hulu and whatnot are getting more and more traffic every day and Charter doesn't want to lose their T.V. service subscriptions to these kinds of websites. I know in many places Charter is a monopoly, which is also infuriating. 

This issue goes far beyond mere, "Oh no I can't use my internet as much as I want to.". I'm a big advocate of net neutrality, and these bandwidth caps are only trampling on that ideal. The prevalence of explicit bandwidth caps by ISPs is only going to allow large companies to stomp on consumer rights until we live in a world where the information on the web is truly controlled by huge corporations bent on draining every last dollar out of the people. 

Blogging on my blog...BLOG!

It's weird how odd words can feel after you say them alot, and we certainly hear the word blog a lot nowdays. We've been talking about blogs in my Writing For the Web class quite a bit in the past two weeks, so I decided to make one up and see what it's all about. 

I'll be honest, I have always had a certain stereotype associated with bloggers. To me those that blog were attention seekers, people who NEEDED to have their voice heard, in any way. But, now I can see how important blogs really are, they provide an important outlet for discourse and are a burgeoning medium in the Web 2.0 paradigm shift. 

Anyways, ranting aside; I also am starting up this blog to help hone my writing skills. I tried keeping a journal but that didn't last very long at all. Maybe I'll keep up better with this blog.
